How to kill a RMAN session?

Sometimes you may need to kill the RMAN session for any reason. For this, you have two options. The first option is using the alter system kill session command. You need to get the sid and serial# values from the v$process and v$sessions views. See the following example:

1-  Use the following query to get the sid and serial# values of the connected RMAN session:

SQL> select s.sid,s.serial#,p.spid,s.client_info  from v$session s,v$process p where  s.paddr=p.addr and s.client_info  like 'rman%';

SID         SERIAL#    SPID       CLIENT_INFO
---------- ---------- -------   -----------------
914 237    33912 rman channel=TP_CH_01

2- Use the alter system kill session command to kill the running backup session:

SQL> alter system kill session '914,237' immediate;


You can also kill the RMAN session directly from the OS:

[oracle@test-db]$ ps -ef | grep rman


[oracle@test-db]$ ps -ef | grep rman

oracle   35422 35420 11 12:42 pts/0    00:00:01 rman target / cmdfile /oracle/rman_script/test-db-ORACLE_INC.sh log=/var/log/rman_log/2015-11-12--12-42-28-inc.log
oracle   35517 28438  0 12:42 pts/1    00:00:00 grep rman

[oracle@test-db]$  kill -9 35422
